I enjoy romance novels which are initially based on friendship. From the very beginning of Sophie and Michael's encounter the reader feels the undercurrent flow of attraction between them. This attraction ends up exploding, eventually leading to the drama of the story.

A stubborn woman who is not able to express herself well when it comes to matters of the heart makes for a good romance novel, there is absolutely no doubt about that. I'll admit that Sophie had me wanting to shake her a few times as I read. When she admitted that she didn't understand her reasoning behind what one of her pivotal actions was, it made me feel better about her.

The story was written from Sophie's point of view so I felt that I didn't get to understand Michael and his motivations as much as I wanted to.

When I chose to read this novel I was looking for something light, short, and entertaining. I was not disappointed. The second book in the Lagos Romance Series, Hidden Currents, is ready for our reading pleasure and I'm looking forward to it.

Always Yours Lagos Romance Series Book 1 edition by Somi Ekhasomhi Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

It was not steamy, but it was sweet and sensual. This is a setting not often used in romance stories and I loved it! I loved that we had a love story set in Nigeria that showed the modernity as well as the challenges of the country. I also loved the main character, Sophie. I think I identified with her because I had to fight through my own insecurities to not see the worse in every situation. I recommended it to my friends, and I recommend it to you too! I hope you enjoy it!
The story was too formula for me and I found the protagonist weak, too assuming and a bit annoying... Now before I continue I want it to be known that the concept is definitely there, but the execution definitely fell short for me. I am also a realist that knows more than a thing or two about the magazine and print industry, so there was some fairy tale aspects that took me a while to get over... Oh and I some people may get on me for this, but I'm tired of black women writing black women as only high yellow, with good hair and usually green or hazel eyes.
Sophie totally missed the boat on Michael. It took her the majority of the story to discover the truth as well as admit it to herself. Wish these two could have gotten it together sooner. It was an enjoyable story nevertheless.
Very good read. I purchased this book because it was a love story and the anticipation was how Sophie was going to get together with Michael with him not being available, yet not be the reason if Michael relationship didn't work caught my attention. Great love story. I enjoyed the fact that it also took place in Nigeria, it sort of took me away to another place to visit. I ended up reading Hidden Currents also because of the characters and how the author grabs your attention.
This book wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either.

Pros
African romance
Classy sex scenes
Touching moments

Cons
Sophie was too airheaded to be realistic (she never asked Michael what he meant before making wild assumptions)
Sophie was too airheaded
Sophie WAS SO DAMNED AIRHEADED!
(Spoiler) She keeps saying how he wasn't "that kind of man" meaning he wasn't evil yet after she slept with him, suddenly he's evil? Did I miss something? How can she honestly believe that Michael was a good person when she also believed he did something terrible to her? "Michael isn't the type of person to use me as a side chick. Michael isn't the type of man to do that." After she sleeps with him and he apologizes (he apologizes! what's so wrong with that?) Suddenly she's "How can he do this to me?! I love him and he breaks my heart!" What is wrong with this girl? (END OF SPOILER)

It was very cheesy and campy and lacked passion and overall reason in the characterization but it was nice to read when I was bored. Quite nice.
We meet Sophie, a single young lady carrying the torch for the past 5 yrs. for her "boyfriend" from college, Michael. Sophie has created and runs a magazine.
We then meet Michael at a soiree Sophie is covering for her magazine. It's clear he is still carrying the torch for her, but she doesn't see it.
The way Sophie misunderstands and assumes things based on what Michael says gives us clear insight into how Sophie thinks.

Somi has a wonderful way of making you see each character in her novel. The writing makes it very hard to put this book down until the last page. I really enjoyed the descriptions used for people and places. This is a wonderful world to fall into as you read and I can't wait to see what Somi comes up with for Sophie's friend and co-worker Ada.
I chose this book because I love romance novels but was finding it difficult to find something in the A African-American persuasion that was interesting. I'm glad I have this book about Michel and Sophie. The story begins with Sophie meeting Michael through his cousin while in University. She's the freshman trying desperately to avoid being a statistic , freshman girl being taken advantage of by upper classman . Unfortunately for Michael he really like her but knows her phobia. So he plays his role as friend until his graduation night. After Sophie misunderstands his intentions and they lose contact for six years, until a party brings them back in contact. Tge story focuses on the pair relearning each other through engagements and emotional decsions that seem to make Sophie want to run
