I've just finished ch 4 and don't know if I'm going to continue. While I think the author has some potential, he really REALLY needs to do something about the gaping logic flaws and plot holes. I've counted three so far and they are absolutely ruining this book.

1. Marcus decides to take out Palo on the last flight and "for three hours ... had been silently sawing at Palo's seatbelt". Please tell me, for I would really like to know, how one flies a plane and at the same time surreptitiously "saws" away at the co-pilot's seatbelt without him noticing.

2. Pruett meets with his friend Malcom Whitefeather in the local cafe and asks him if he's seen any unusual characters around. Whitefeather points out a Latino fellow sitting "at the end of the counter". Shortly thereafter, apparently after learning what he needed to know, the Latino fellow "tips his hat" and leaves. How is it that he was able to overhear Pruett and Whitefeather's conversation when he was on the other side of the cafe? Why would they talk so openly so that a man who had already come under their suspicion would hear their conversation? Why would that man signal them by tipping his hat as he left? Why would they sit there and do nothing if they had suspicions about him?

3. After Omar waterboards Tim for the second time, Tim thinks to himself that nothing else in the world matters except to breathe again: "not sex, not Rachel or his parents or his dog; and certainly not anything anyone could find on a plane". And Omar *knows* Tim would give anything - tell him all the truths he knew in this world - just to keep the air" flowing.

Wow. Sure sounds like Tim is ready to talk. But instead, he lies again. Come on. You just got done establishing that "nothing else in the world matters" and that he "would give anything" to stop the torture. Then, seconds later, he's suddenly resolved to hold out by lying again. Give me a break.

Money Land A Hard Boiled Murder Mystery A James Pruett Mystery Book 2 edition by RS Guthrie Tanja Prokop Russell Rowland Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

After having read Blood Land, the first book in the series of mysteries starred by Sheriff James Pruett, I was quite looking forward to reading the second book in the series. My patient waiting was rewarded and I wasn't disappointed. R. S. Guthrie is a master of characterisation, creating great and remarkable characters that feel quite alive on the pages. Sheriff James Pruett is still fighting against his inner demons in this new novel, and even though he thinks that he can manage to do so, things will get difficult very soon, and the apparent calm of his little town in Wyoming will be threatened by something bigger than them drug cartels.

When a plane crashes nearby Sheriff Pruett's little town, lots of things start happening murder, kidnapping, lots of threats, and many other dangerous situations. Sheriff Pruett will face difficult choices, choices involving moral issues. His decisions won't only affect himself, but also the rest of the community in that little spot in Wyoming.

It is an action-packed thriller, character-driven, and with a very suitable pace, according to the length of the book. The story is simply so interesting that you cannot stop reading. I read this book in a total of 6 hours. You get so immersed in the story, thanks to the vivid and detailed descriptions, that you feel as if you were transported to the rough landscapes of Wyoming. You can feel things, you can smell things, you can even touch things. The descriptions are just perfect for me.

The only odd thing I found has to do with a couple of characters, but I won't say it here because it would spoil things. I will just say that writers must be very careful with the different ways in which they name their characters along the book. Otherwise, sometimes the reader can get confused.

To sum up, this book is so good that you won't regret reading it, and you will await impatiently for the next installment. However, I think all of you would enjoy it better if you read Blood Land first. This book could be a stand-alone novel, but I really think it works best if you know what happened in the first book.
I'll just let my review of "Blood Land" posted July 11th speak to the quality of this series. Was an instant grab for me once I became aware it was available on Bookbub, and would recommend the same for other readers. As for my original review

Feels like a cross between both a western and a hard-boiled mystery making for an interesting read. Had same troubles as another reviewer at first having to grope my way into the book initially, but once it took hold with the characters and mystery of whom was killing who I was fully on board and am now wanting to read the sequel as well. One final passage that turned me on before I sign off, ' "A lot of people took exception to the both of 'em," Pruett said. "But this went beyond 'personal'. This was family." Very good book!

Don't hesitate to purchase this book at this low introductory price. You won't be disappointed!
